Alzheimer's Association: Western Carolina Chapter

In North Carolina, more than 180,000 are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and over 356,000 family and friends are providing care. Serving 49 central and western counties in North Carolina, the Alzheimer’s Association - Western Carolina Chapter is here to help. We provide education and support to all those facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias throughout our community, including those living with the disease, caregivers, health care professionals and families. We are also committed to advocating for the needs and rights of those facing Alzheimer’s disease and advancing critical research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.

New York Life's Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative

Partner with us in building a Grief-Sensitive School community. New York Life has launched a groundbreaking program called the Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative to better equip educators and other school personnel to support grieving students.

Its Purpose:

  • Provide a personal introduction to this initiative through presentation given by the New York Life workforce

  • Raise awareness about the prevalence of childhood bereavement and ‘grief in school’

  • Increase the knowledge of the resources available for schools to support grieving students and their families

  • Support schools/school districts in striving to become Grief-Sensitive through tangible resources, training, practical tools and a connection to a network of supportive services

St. Jude

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the leading source of information and treatment for childhood cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Because of the generosity of their donors, families incur no cost for their child's treatment. In the last 50 years, because of St. Jude's research and work, the survival rate for children with cancer has increased an incredible amount - from 20% to 80%.

It was Isabella’s dream to . Although research and advanced treatments didn’t come in time for her dreams to come true, her legacy is pushing us to give others a fighting chance against rare pediatric cancer.

African American Community Empowerment Plan

New York Life’s 1,200+ African American insurance agents and financial services professionals1who serve African American communities around the nation are celebrating an important milestone in their movement to help raise financial literacy, and to create multigenerational wealth among African Americans. They have empowered more than 210,000 families, with a collective $44.5 billion of life insurance protection and future income, as of March 24, 2017. And they are on pace to reach their $50 billion goal by the end of 2017. This year is also the 60thanniversary of Cirilo McSween becoming New York Life’s first African American agent, in 1957.

Moyer Foundation

Founded in 2000 by MLB, World Series-winning All-Star pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen; The Moyer Foundation’s mission is clear: “To empower children in distress by providing education and support – helping them to live healthy and inspired lives.” New York Life Charlotte is proud to support and participate in the Moyer Foundation and its programs. In 2012 the New York Life Foundation donated $1,000,000 to The Moyer Foundation, the largest single donation in the foundation’s 12-year history.

Special Olympics

The team at the New York Life Charlotte General Office are supporters of the Special Olympics North Carolina. 85% of every dollar raised is used for Special Olympics training, competition and leadership programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

Second Harvest Food Bank

The team at the New York Life Charlotte General Office are supporters of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. The food bank partners with local companies to serve and feed hundreds of hungry men, women and children throughout their 46-county service area. Their partners include food pantries, soup kitchens, foster care facilities, soup kitchens, senior centers, group homes and youth enrichment programs.

American Heart Association

The New York Life Charlotte General Office are supporters of the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. They are dedicated to defeating heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases. Their goal is to improve the cardiovascular health in all Americans by 20 percent in the year 2020.

New York Life Charlotte’s Child ID Program is designed to help children in our community stay safe in the home, at play, or wherever they happen to be. Tens-of-thousands of children have participated over the years in our child ID cards, providing their families with peace of mind knowing that if something should ever happen to their children, they will have an ID with vital information to distribute to the local authorities.
